Six humans trapped by happenstance, in dark and bitter cold
Each possessed a stick of wood--Or so the story's told.
Their dying fire in need of logs, but the first one held hers back,
For, of the faces around the fire, She noticed one was black.
The next man looking cross the way, Saw one not of his church,
And could not bring himself to give, The fire his stick of birch.
The third one sat in tattered clothes, He gave his coat a hitch,
Why should his log be put to use, To warm the idle rich?
The rich man just sat back and thought, Of the wealth he had in store,
And keeping all that he had earned, From the lazy, shiftless poor.
The black mans face bespoke revenge, As the fire passed from his sight,
For he saw in his stick of wood, A chance to spite the white.
And the last man of this forlorn group, Did naught except for gain,
Giving just to those who gave, Was how he played the game.
Their sticks held tight in deaths stilled hands, Was proof enough of sin;
They did not die from cold without--They died from cold within.
Watching the Gandhi movie was an uplifting thing, I am really moved by one of his quotes near the end of the movie. He said that he was Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Christian, you get it, basically everything. I also like the part where a Hindu man confessed to Gandhi that he was going to hell because he had killed a Muslim child, by bashing his head against the wall. This was done in retribution for the Muslims killing his child. Gandhi explained to him that there was a way out of hell, and that was to adopt and raise a young Muslim child that had been orphaned, and raise him as his own, except as a Muslim.
Have you ever read once in your Bible, Torah, Koran or any other great religious book where it says to go out and kill or harm the person that has different religious beliefs? Yet every day Catholics & Protestants, Israelis & Palestinians, Muslims & Hindus, fight and KILL each other in the name of God, or their religion. Look at how bad the Jews have been treated over time, yet they are some most productive people and hold many high positions especially in the US. Look at the "Christian" Serbs that are responsible for the biggest round of ethnic cleansing since the Holocaust. When are we going to learn that God wants us to get along with each other? If you don't like what your neighbor is doing, stay in your own yard.
